Intelligent Learning Material Delivery Agent (ILMDA) This project started Spring of 2003 after a discussion between project leader Dr. Soh and Suzette Person, who at the time was the Director of the Great Plains Software Technology Initiative. Funded by the Initiative, two students, Brandy Hobbs and L.D. Miller, were hired to build a prototype. In June 2003, a prototype was demonstrated and presented to the Department Chair. In Summer 2003, Todd Blank and Ashok Thirunavukkaras joined the team. Todd worked on the machine learning component while Ashok worked on the relaxed database retrieval module. In September 2003, an improved prototype was demonstrated and presented to the Department and National Center for Information Technology in Education (NCITE). In February 2004, a poster session and demonstration was held at the Big Red Road Show at Omaha. In Fall 2004, a student simulator was built to test the machine learning mechanisms of ILMDA. In Summer 2004, the development of 5 learning objects started: File I/O, Exceptions, Inheritance & Polymorphism, Event Driven Programming, and Recursion. In Fall 2004, ILMDA was deployed to CSCE 155 (CS1) labs to evaluate software feasibility and logistics. Preliminary pedagogical and machine learning experiments were conducted. In Spring 2005, ILMDA was modified and deployed to CSCE155 (CS1) labs again. Machine learning experiments were conducted. Results are currently being reviewed. |
